Oral Health for Adults

It is important to take care of your oral health at every stage in life. If you do not take care of your oral health, you can be at risk for certain disease such as tooth decay or periodontal (gum) disease. These diseases can lead to other health issues if not taken care of. Below are some tips for taking care of your oral health. And remember, tooth decay and periodontal disease are completely preventable.

  • checkedBrush twice a day for 2 minutes with fluoride and a soft-bristle toothbrush
  • checkedUse a pea-size amount of toothpaste
  • checkedFloss in between teeth at least once a day if able
  • checkedEat a diet full of fruits, vegetables and whole-grains daily
  • checkedVisit the dentist once every 6 months

Avoid Smoking and Sugary Drinks

Remember, it is important to visit the dentist even if you do not have teeth or if you have dentures. Avoid smoking or vaping, limit alcohol beverages and sugary drinks. Drinking plenty of water instead of sugary drinks can help stop tooth decay.
